Bushfire-Compliant Construction
Much of the Blue Mountains is mapped as bushfire-prone land, which means new builds, additions and rebuilds must be constructed to a Bushfire Attack Level (BAL) determined by a site assessment. These levels range from BAL-12.5 through to BAL-FZ (Flame Zone).
We build to all BAL ratings, using compliant materials and construction methods to meet the standard set for your site under AS 3959.

BAL-FZ is the most severe rating, applied where a building may be exposed to direct flame contact along with extreme radiant heat. It carries the strictest construction requirements of any BAL level.

Your BAL rating is determined by an accredited bushfire consultant, and approvals may involve the NSW Rural Fire Service under Planning for Bush Fire Protection. We work alongside the consultant, certifier and designer to make sure what's built matches what's been assessed and approved.

Bushfire-Compliant Decks & Outdoor Areas
Decks, verandahs and outdoor areas have their own bushfire requirements, and they're often overlooked. On bushfire-prone land, decking close to the home must be built from non-combustible materials or approved bushfire-resisting timbers, with the detailing to match your site's BAL rating.
At BAL-FZ, requirements are stricter again, with non-combustible framing and decking typically needed where the structure adjoins the home. We design and build outdoor spaces that meet these standards without sacrificing the look you're after.
